Question of the Week: Where do I find coupons?

I get asked this question frequently. My answer is usually, "from the Sunday paper". However, there are many ways to get coupons.

1) Most coupons are found in the Sunday paper coupon inserts. Every week (except holiday weekends) there is at least one insert, but usually more. This week there are FIVE! I buy 4 copies of the paper each week, but on big weeks I buy more. If I know about some really high-value coupons coming out, I will buy more. This week I bought 6 copies - I've got a lot of coupon cutting to do!

2) Peelies, Blinkies and Tear-Pads. What? Let me explain.
Peelies are those sticky coupons attached directly to some products on the shelves. Like finding gold! Keep your eyes open for these.
Blinkies are the coupons that pop out of those blinking boxes near the product they're for. Most of the time they say "Do not double", which is a bummer, but some are worth collecting. Look for high-value ones and keep them on hand for those upcoming sales.
Tear-Pad coupons are found all throughout the stores in various locations (sometimes even in the produce section) on tear-pads. Take a couple if they're for products you use - you may find a sale in the future where they'll come in handy.

3) In-Store Coupon Books
You can find these in all sorts of places throughout some stores. Fred Meyer has one called "Naturally Preferred" and it's usually located in or near the health foods section. It's free and it comes out once a month. This month you'll find the following coupons in it:

$1/1 ANY Kashi organic cereal (expires 10/31/09)
$1/1 ANY Annie Chun's item (expires 3/31/10)
$1/2 ANY 2 Amy's products (expires 11/30/09)
$1/2 ANY 2 Simply Organic spices or grinders (expires 3/31/10)
(the above coupons are manufacturer coupons and are valid at any retail store)
25% off Nutrition Now Kids' Rhino Supplements (first 2)
$1/1 Knudsen Just Juice 32 oz. (first 2)
$0.50/1 Naturally Preferred Organic Veggies or Berries 10 oz. (first 4)
$0.50/1 Naturally Preferred Brown or White Cage Free Eggs dozen (first 4)
Cliff Twisted Fruit or Z Bars 2/$1 (first 10)
Country Choice Organic Cookies or Oatmeal 2/$5 (first 4)
$0.50/1 Naturally Preferred 1/2 Gallon Organic Milk (first 2)
25% off Naturally Preferred Herbal Supplements (first 2)
(the above coupons are Fred Meyer coupons)

A similar book is available at Thriftway and has similar manufacturer coupons in it. I found it in the produce section. Walgreens has their own coupon leaflet each month (not the weekly circular), as well as sometimes a pharmacy booklet. I usually just go to the pharmacy counter and ask if they have a new one. Walgreens has one right now called "Healthy Savings" and it is full of health-related coupons in it. Don't forget that you can "stack" these store coupons with manufacturer coupons on the same item. (i.e. Walgreens coupon for $2/1 Triaminic Thin Strips from the Healthy Savings booklet stacked with manufacturer coupon for $1.50/1 Thin Strips makes for FREE product at Walgreens starting tomorrow! Read about it in It's Hip 1 Save's Walgreens post.)

4) Samples
Many times a manufacturer will send samples to you for free and include high-value coupons with it. Often I will sign up for a sample simply to get the coupons.

5) Coupon Booklets Directly From the Manufacturer
As I've posted before, you can often sign up for a booklet full of coupons sent directly from the manufacturer. Proctor & Gamble puts one out at least 3 times a year called Home Made Simple. You can order one right now by signing up here (thanks, Saving with Shellie!).

6) In the Mail
I've tried this and it works! Send an e-mail to a company and request coupons from them! Go to their website and click on their "Contact Us" link. Send a simple e-mail with a comment on their products or a reason why you'd like some coupons. I've written to several companies recently and received coupons for cents-off specific products and even coupons for free products! Check out this post by Nicole's Nickles. She gives links to many companies to make it easy for you!

7) Internet
You can print off coupons at thousands of websites on the internet. Many are found on product websites, many can be found on coupon websites like coupons.com and redplum.com. If you want to know if there is a specific coupon available, check out hotcouponworld.com. They have a coupon database where you can locate practically any coupon available!

As you can see, it pays to keep your eyes open! Don't be shy about taking coupons you find! You may not need them right away, but you never know when a great sale may come around when you'll be happy you have them.

Personal Update

As you have probably noticed, my posting has been spotty at best lately! Most of that is due to the fact that it's SUMMER! With both of my kids home, tons of family vacations going on, and no air conditioning in our house, I haven't had much time with my computer.

I appreciate all of my readers so much and hope that you will check out my favorite blogs for current deals when I fail to post them here! I promise that I will try to keep up more faithfully once our vacations are past.

I hope you're enjoying your summer as much as I am!

Incredible Bottled Water Deal!

This deal is for those of you who have access to multiple computers and can print multiple copies of some high value coupons. If you can figure out a way to get them, though, you can get 14 cases of water (24-packs) for as little as $1 (plus deposit)! Follow these instructions carefully:

1) Print at least 6 copies of each of these coupons (you'll only be able to print 2 per computer):
$1/1 Nestle case water - you'll need to register with an e-mail address and physical address
$1.50/1 24-pk Nestle water - Internet Explorer, Firefox or try this one if you're using Safari on your Mac

2) Go to Safeway and get an ad and tear out the coupon doubler. Buy five 24-pk. cases of .5L Nestle water

3) When you check out, use 5 of the $1.50/1 coupons and the Safeway doubler. Here's the price breakdown for this transaction:

$3.99 x 5 = $19.95
-$5 Instant Savings (automatic savings when you buy 5)
-$7.50 coupons
-$2.00 Safeway doubles
=$5.45
*note: don't forget that you'll pay $1.20 per case in Oregon for deposit

4) At the end of your transaction you'll receive a catalina for $5 off your next purchase.

5) Take the water to your car, then go back in and buy 5 more cases of water. When you check out, use your remaining $1.50/1 coupon and 4 of the $1/1 coupons, plus your Safeway doubler and the $5 catalina from the previous purchase. Here's the breakdown:

$19.95
-$5 instant savings
-$5.50 coupons
-$2.00 Safeway doubles
-$5 catalina
=$2.45 (plus deposit in Oregon)

You will again receive a $5 catalina at the end of your transaction.

6) Cut all 10 upc codes from the top of each case of water and send them with your receipts and this form to Nestle's Pure Life / Best Life Healthy Rewards program. You will receive 4 coupons for case packs of Nestle Pure Life water!

Not factoring in deposit in Oregon, your total for all 14 cases of water will be $2.90! That's less than a penny per bottle! When I did my first transaction, I also received a coupon good for $3 off a $10 produce purchase. Of course, if you had access to more than 3 computers, you could print more than 6 of the $1.50/1 coupons and your deal would be even sweeter. The Nestle rewards deal allows up to 10 case pack coupons per household, so if you can print more coupons, you can continue to roll this deal and claim more free cases from Nestle.

The catalina deal is running through 8/9, but the Safeway Instant Savings deal only runs through 7/28, so get there before next Wednesday!

Thanks to Hip 2 Save and Abundant Food Savings for much of the deal details!

Lots of Albertsons Deal Scenarios

Because the Epic Savings event is still going on at Albertsons, there are many great deals to be had. I've had fun stocking up on freebies to donate to the food bank (and to a few lucky friends!). There are lots of great deal scenarios created by my fellow bloggers. Here are a few I'm particularly fond of:

Frugal Living NW here, here and here

Don't forget to use those double coupons from this week's Food Day! There may be more on Sunday, too, so grab a few of the ads when you're at the store. Then, save some doubles to use with the ones that may (*hopefully*) come out Sunday.

Redbox Code

There's a current Redbox available now through 7/7!

7HE79B

This code can be used once per credit/debit card and should work at all Redbox locations. Remember to return your movie before 9:00 p.m. the following day to avoid any rental charges.

Free Veggie Tales DVD!

Do your kids love Veggie Tales like mine do? I usually just borrow them from the library, but when I can find one super cheap, I like to jump at the chance. I recently found the Jonah DVD at Target for $5 (regular price, not on sale), and now Big Idea is giving away your choice of three for free if you sign up for their e-newsletter. Right now only 2 of the three are available, but I'm not sure if they will restock the third one. You can choose between "Larry Boy & the Fib From Outer Space" or "The Ballad of Little Joe" ("Where's God When I'm S-scared?" is out of stock). You have to pay $2.99 for shipping, but that's still a great price! Just add your choice of DVDs to your cart, create an account, and you're good to go!

Pharmacy Deals for 7/5 - 7/12

Here are this week's pharmacy deals:

Rite Aid by It's Hip 2 Save and Frugal Living NW (note: the $5 off $25 coupon mentioned in these posts can be found here)

Walgreens (post 1 and post 2) by Shopping Frugal

CVS by Bargain Briana (find a store near you here)

Thanks, fellow bloggers!

Sign Up For Your $30 Coupon Book by Mail

A new Home Made Simple coupon booklet is available! Sign up here to get yours! Remember, these booklets usually have a coupon for a free Cascade Rinse Agent, which is worth $4.99! I have only found this product at Safeway, so that's where I always go to get mine. I have quite a stockpile of these already!

Albertsons Trip

I went to Albertsons today to see if I could get some good deals with the double coupons from Sunday's paper. Here's what I got:

6 Skippy Natural Peanut Butter ($2.00 each)
8 Kraft Mac & Cheese ($1.00 each)
2 Knorr Rice Sides ($1.00 each)
1 Thomas' Cinnamon & Sugar Mini Bagels ($2.50)
2 Rice Krispies ($1.99 each)
1 bunch parsley ($0.69)
1 cucumber ($0.79)
2 Fruit Snacks ($0.59 each)
Total Before Coupons: $31.14

Used Albertsons in-store coupon for Skippy Peanut Butter (any kind) $0.99 each (saved $1.01 each)
Used 2 "Buy 3 get 1 free" Kraft Mac & Cheese coupons (saved $1.00 with each coupon)
Used $0.75/2 Knorr Rice Sides coupon from 5/17 RP insert
Used 2 $1/1 Kellogg's coupons from 6/7 RP insert
Used 3 Albertsons doubles ($0.75, $0.99 and $0.99)
Saved $5 for buying 10 items from "Epic Event"
Total Coupons Used: ($20.54)

Total OOP: $11.60
Received 3 $1 catalinas from Skippy Naturals (Buy 2 get $1 off your next purchase)
Received $2 catalina from Kraft (Buy 4 Mac & Cheese, get $1; Buy 5 get $1.50; Buy 6 get $2)
Total: $6.60!

*Note: the Kraft Mac & Cheese coupons I used were IP coupons, not the ones from the 6/28 SS that state "Limit one coupon per customer per transaction". If those are the only ones you have, this transaction will not work for you. (Some Albertsons cashiers will take more than one of the SS coupons, but I do not advocate using coupons in a manner in which they were not intended.)

Check out some additional double coupon scenarios here.

Jamba Juice BOGO Coupon

There's nothing better than a cool drink on a hot day, right? Well, now you can get two smoothies for the price of one at Jamba Juice with this coupon! It's good through July 12, so you've got a good two weeks to use it (maybe more than once!)

Current Walmart Deals

I just stumbled across a post by It's Hip 2 Save with a comprensive list of current Walmart deals (as of 6/25). If you live near a Walmart, you need to check it out! Looks like a lot of great deals you will definitely want to take advantage of.

$5 Swim Suits/Shorts for the Whole Family!

Old Navy is having a sale today through Sunday on family swimwear! Each piece is only $5! I went in this morning and got my son's next two sizes of swim shorts and shirts for $5 each! That's more than 1/2 off their regular prices. I wanted to find suits for my daughter, but their selection for girls size 7 & up was pathetic. I may check out another store to see if they have more, but I won't hold my breath. The big boy section was well-stocked, as well as the little boy & girl sections.

If you want a really great deal, go to OldNavyWeekly.com and print one of the remaining 15% off your purchase coupons. That makes the swim pieces only $4.25 each! (Click on the phrase "Get their no-sweat style" to get your coupon.) You can also shop online at OldNavy.com if you want a better selection and don't mind paying shipping.

Do You Buy the Sunday Oregonian?

For those of us Oregonian readers in the Portland metro area, we have the opportunity to influence some change. The writers of one of the blogs I follow, Frugal Living NW, has been in contact with the Circulation Director at The Oregonian. She has asked if they'd be willing to offer delivery of multiple Sunday papers to subscribers. So far, no luck, but they're mounting a campaign to find out how much interest there might be in this idea.

If you currently buy the Sunday Oregonian (one or more copies per week) and might be interested in having mulitple copies delivered to your home, check out the Frugal Living NW post here and leave a comment. This is simply a way to determine the level of interest - no obligation, obviously!

Free Bug Spray at Fred Meyer

Want to find a place to use that great $2 off Cutter Insect Repellant from the 5/31 SS insert? If you didn't use them up at Walgreens last week (mine didn't have it on sale, though some others did), Fred Meyer has the 1 oz. Cutter Advanced Pump Spray for $1.99. This is their regular price (not on sale), so there's no hurry. I bought 4 the other day and the cashier had no problem adjusting the coupon down to match the price. All cashiers are different, so YMMV (your mileage may vary).

Huge Walmart Deals List

Check out this post from It's Hip 2 Save with a major list of all the current deals at Walmart. As you know, your local prices may vary slightly from this list, but in general, I think they're pretty accurate.

$5 off $25 Walgreens Coupon June 10 & 11 ONLY

Walgreens has released another $5 off $25 purchase coupon. The fine print states that it must be a $25 purchase AFTER all manufacturer and store coupons have been used (though some stores are not picky about this). If you can come up with a scenario using this coupon to score some great deals, let us all know! The best way to use these coupons is with Register Rewards products, so that your OOP is enough to use the coupon, but you get "money" back.

Here is a post with some ideas about how to use this coupon (thanks, Shopping Frugal!)

Spend $50, Get $50 at Sears

Sears is running a promotion for Father's Day that looks like this:

You must purchase the initial $50 worth of pants or jeans between June 7 and June 21, then submit your rebate request by June 30. Rebate can be submitted online or via mail using this form. Rewards Cash must be redeemed by October 30, 2009.

Did you find your new Albertsons double coupons in the Sunday paper today? They're valid today through Tuesday only, so use them quickly! And take note: they can be used together with the 3 doubles from this week's Food Day! Those were labeled 1, 2 and 3; the ones in today's paper are labeled 5, 6 and 7. As long as they have different coupon numbers on them, they'll work in the same transaction.

So, hurry over and get some free stuff! You can check out some coupon match-ups here.

Old Navy Coupon Site to Update Soon!

According to Old Navy, their weekly coupon hunting site, oldnavyweekly.com, will be updated sometime today - that leaves just one hour! There will be 3000 of the $75 off $100 coupons, and lots of other great ones, too.

Good luck finding yours!

Did You Get Your Free Doughnut Yesterday?

Well, I did! I took my son to Krispy Kreme for National Doughnut Day to pick up our free doughnuts as a special breakfast treat! As you can see, Jack enjoyed his chocolate iced with sprinkles very much! (Don't you love the red glow from the "Hot Donuts Now" sign?)
How I love a good freebie!

Printable Store Coupons

Did you know that you can print some store coupons online? Many stores have coupons on their websites that are not available anywhere else. (Remember, store coupons can be used in conjunction with manufacturer's coupons.)

Target (this is a coupon generator from OrganicGroceryDeals.com - scroll down and you'll see the area where you can choose how many of each coupon you want to print)

Walgreens (only a few are store coupons - they say "Walgreens" on them)

At Fred Meyer there are kiosks located right inside the grocery entrance (huge yellow ones) where you can print in-store coupons valid for one day only. These vary all the time, but it's worth checking into!

Upcoming Store Deals for June 7-13

Update: I went to my local Kmart (SW Murray/Canyon Rd. in Beaverton) and they are NOT participating in the double coupon event (even though corporate Kmart said all of Oregon is). Not sure what the story is, but you might want to call before you go!
Looks like a fairly slow week at some of the usual hot spots, like Walgreens, but Kmart is having a double coupon event, so that may make up for it! Here are links to some good coupon match-ups:

Walgreens:

Kmart: (stated policy for this double coupon event is that they will double any coupon with a value of up to $2.00, limit 10 coupons per transaction)

Incredible Crocs Sale!

Right now at Crocs.com you can buy girls mary jane style Crocs for $9.99 each (reg. $24.99). Wait, it gets better. If you buy 2 or more pairs you'll get 50% off each pair! That's $4.97 each! And, to make it even sweeter, you can use one of these codes to get free shipping - SPRINGCUSTOMER09 or MALINDI09. I just placed an order for 3 different colors and paid a total of $14.97! That is unheard of for this brand and quality of shoe. Hurry, before they're all sold out. (I did find that most of the available sizes were for older girls like my daughter, who is 7.)

Want Free Sunday Papers?

This week at Walgreens they have 45-ct. Ecotrin aspirin on sale for $2.00. When you purchase this product, you'll receive a $2.00 Register Reward. There's also a $2/1 coupon for Ecotrin from the 5/17 SS insert, or you can print it here.

Each Register Reward can be used to buy a Sunday paper (or anything else you want, of course). I've gotten 3 this week so far, and I usually buy 4 papers, so I'll try to go one more time before Sunday to get my 4th one. (By the way, there will be 3 inserts in this week's Sunday paper - a Smart Source, a Red Plum and a Proctor & Gamble.)

*This is just an example of how you can use deals on products you may not use to buy products you will use.

Another Albertsons Score!

There are so many deal scenarios with the $3 instant savings and the double coupons, so I hope you can find some that work for you.

To celebrate National Doughnut Day, Krispy Kreme is offering a free donut to each customer tomorrow, June 5. Word is, it's a doughnut of your choice, so maybe you can score something other than a classic glazed.

Albertsons Doubles

I've sure been enjoying the Albertsons double coupons these past couple of weeks! I made two trips today to two different stores to use all 4 sets of doubles that were expiring today. Here's what I got:

6 boxes Quaker True Delights Granola Bars
4 bonus-size French's Yellow Mustard
2 bags Mission Tortillas

Total cost: $.36!

I used 6 $1/1 True Delights coupons
4 $.75/1 French's coupons
2 $1/1 Mission IP coupons
12 Albertsons doubles

This took me 4 transactions, but both stores let me do 2 per trip, so it wasn't bad. It was certainly worth it, if you ask me!

*In today's Food Day there are more doubles, but these are good all week (through next Tuesday). You can check out this post for some deal scenarios, as well as another one here.

Hot Sunscreen Deal!

I don't know about you moms out there, but one of my favorite things for summer is continuous spray sunscreen! And right now at Rite Aid, you can pick it up for $2! Here's how:

Buy 2 cans of Coppertone Suncare Products at 2/$15

Receive $5 SCR from Rite Aid (limit 1 rebate)

That's $4 for 2!

This rebate offer is good through June 6.
